Haiti Forum Re-cap

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

haiti banner defaultOn January 15, the Xeko players came together to discuss the tragic earthquake in Haiti,  how we could help as a community, and how players could help in their community.  It is very clear you all have started working in your communities to send relief efforts.  Below are a few questions from tonight’s forum.

Q: What is most needed in Haiti?

A: Water is the first need in Haiti. Water is fundamental to survival and that is why it’s the most important. Mercy Corps will be sending water supplies to Haiti. They also need food and shelter.  Several relief agencies are sending teams to assess the needs of the Haitian people.  These efforts will continue for a long time, as they begin to rebuild their country.

Q: How do our virtual coins go to help people in Haiti?

A: Your virtual coin donations will cause Xeko to donate to Mercy Corps. Mercy Corps is an organization that travels around the world to countries in need to get rid of suffering and poverty by building up communities.

Q: What other ways can we help?

A: You can give your time, finances, and organize others to help.  Here are some suggestions below:

-      Donate in the Haiti Relief store in the marketplace, Xeko will then donate to Mercy Corps

-      Make donations to MercyCorps.org

-      Ask your teacher if your class can do a fundraiser

-      Contact your local Salvation Army

-      Donate to UNICEF; their donations will go to children, the most vulnerable population in any natural disaster. www.unicefusa.org

-      To find ways to help locally, have your parents dial 211, which is the United Ways referral line  (more…)

Xeko Forum: Helping People in Haiti Impacted by the Earthquake

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Several of you have proposed, and Xeko HQ agrees, we can use the power of Xeko and gaming for good to help people in Haiti. If you watch the news you probably heard about the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. It was a large earthquake — 7.0 on the Richter scale — and much damage was caused and many people impacted. When a disaster like this occurs, if you’re able to help, it’s important to reach out and help others.

On Friday January 15 at 7PM EST, join us in the Woods to talk about this disaster, learn facts about earthquakes, and most important, come up with ways to help.

What: Xeko Forum to rally with friends, discuss the earthquake and come up with a Xeko plan to help Haitians
Where: Woods
When: January 15 at 7pm EST
Who: Xeko community (you!)
