stuffed polar bear defaultGreat work so far on the Polar Bear GoodQuest, elves! The Elf Island community has made a lot of progress to date, but we need to put in that little bit of extra effort if we want to meet the Goal of protecting 60,000 virtual bears in order to help bears in the REAL world.

As an extra GoodQuest incentive, Elf Island is challenging all elves to protect at least 75 Polar Bears this weekend (Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30). All elves that protect at least 75 bears during this time will receive a special prize, with a repeat prize for every additional 75 protected.

Elf Island is also ready to announce the number of Polar Bears that elves must protect in order to win the final prizes for top contributors. All elves that protect at least 250 Polar Bears will win a Plaque, and all elves that protect at least 500 will also win a Polar Bear GoodQuest badge!

Come on Elf Island, we can do it. Keep on Gaming for Good!

Prizes for the promotion will be awarded on Monday, August 31.Top GoodQuest contribution prizes will be awarded at the end of the GoodQuest.

So far, the Polar Bear GoodQuest is a roaring success: keep up the great work!  Elfie and her bear friends need our support both in-game and in our real lives.  Remember that you can help protect polar bears by incorporating some of these eco-friendly tips into your daily life.

Unplug:  Save energy by turning off and unplugging your TV, stereo, computer, and any other electronics while not in use.
Buy Local: Buying food grown locally cuts C02 emissions that come from transporting items from other places.
Empty your Trunk:  Clean the junk out of your parent’s car trunk. The lighter your car, the less gas it will use.
Carry your Bag:  Use a reusable cloth bag to cut down on landfill waste and look stylish while shopping.

Together we can make a difference by reducing our own CO2 emissions. Keep playing the Polar Bear GoodQuest and watch for updates on Elfie.

Plant-It 2020 and the Eden Foundation have been hard at work helping to plant the 2100 trees that Elf Island raised funding for, with your help.  Your efforts help to ensure that families in Niger will have food and work to keep their families healthy and happy.  The young girl in this picture has collected leaves from the trees planted near her home.  After cooking these leaves and selling them in the local market, she hopes to earn enough money to buy new clothes for her sister’s wedding.  Before the trees were planted in this village, there was little opportunity for her family to earn money.  Elf Island has helped to change that.  GOOD work!

Niger Update

Recycle:   Recycling reuses precious resources that would otherwise clog landfills and increase C02 levels.

The NEW Polar Bear GoodQuest is Live!!

Attention all Elves! Now is your chance to help save REAL polar bears.  The Panda GoodQuest was such a success Elf Island has decided to allow all players to help on the new Polar Bear GoodQuest.  Members will have a chance to earn Quest Rewards, coins, a QuestKey, and be one step closer to The Secret of Elf Island!

If you are not a member, you can still participate in the GoodQuest, earn coins and help Elf Island reach the goal and help the real world.

Through the Polar Bear GoodQuest, you will assist Elfie the polar bear in stopping dangerous CO2 clouds from reaching the Earth’s atmosphere. You have 30 days to reach the QuestGoal and when you do, Polar Bears International (PBI) will track the real Elfie for another 6 months.

Elf Island has already begun doing Good for this species.  Islanders demolished the QuestGoal and earned the right to name the real Elfie.  Your hard work on this GoodQuest will ensure that PBI can track her for a full year!   Tracking polar bears provides vital information that scientists use to learn more about the effects of Global warming and melting ice on the polar bear population.  This data will assist scientists in understanding how to help this species survive the changing climate.

Want to see where the real Elfie has been?  Check out the Bear Tracker at www.polarbearsinternational.org to see where Elfie and other polar bears have been.  Keep checking the blog for updates on the GoodQuest and Elfie’s progress.

How to Play the new Polar Bear GoodQuest

polar bear game 2

To start this GoodQuest, click the QuestHeart in the top center of your screen, and select the Purple Paw Print Icon from the Window of the Heart.  JoAnne will aid you in starting the GoodQuest.

You can choose your level of difficulty.  Completing the Easy level will add 1 bear to the Goal, while completing the Difficult level will add 3.

You can use the mouse or the arrow keys/space bar to play.  Simply move Elfie around the screen and press space or click the left mouse button to Roar the CO2 clouds right out of the sky.  If pollution clouds reach the atmosphere, the CO2 meter will fill.  If the C02 meter reaches the top, you lose.  If you destroy the right number of clouds you will protect the polar bears home and add to the Quest Goal!  Members must protect at least 30 polar bear dens to qualify for a QuestKey.

Good Luck and be sure to post your questions here if you need any help.

Elf Island To Name Polar Bear!

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Elf Island has done some incredible good to help polar bears! These amazing animals are endangered due to global warming destroying their home in the Arctic. However, Elf Islanders worked hard in the Polar

Bear GoodQuest to help scientists track and study a polar bear for 6 months. This will help these wonderful animals for years to come.

Players now have a chance to name the polar bear that will be tracked. Players submitted possible names, and we chose the best of the best to be voted on:

Polar Bear GoodQuest

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

As the Polar Bear GoodQuest draws to a close, Elf Island would like to take a moment to congratulate everyone that participated. Whether you rescued 1 bear or 10,000 bears, every little bit counts! It’s a community effort and we should all be proud of what we’ve accomplished.

However, it’s not over yet! Even though the community has already earned their QuestKeys, if we want to have the opportunity to name the Polar Bear, we still need to reach the bonus goal of 360,000.  Encourage your friends to join in on the GoodQuest. For every 500 elves that join in on the GoodQuest, Elf Island is adding in Bonus Bears! We’ve fallen a little bit behind, but success is still within our grasp. Come on Elf Island, if we work together we can do it!

This is also a good time to shed some light on the number of polar bears that must be rescued in order to win the top prizes! Anyone that has rescued at least 2,416 polar bears will receive the Top Rescuer Award plaque to put in their home. Additionally, a special Polar Bear GoodQuest badge will be temporarily awarded to anyone that rescues at least 4,000 bears. We still have through April 3rd to participate, so make sure to save at least 4 bears before then or to put in some extra effort to earn these prizes! Keep up the good work, everyone!

This weekend Elf Island will be running a special GoodQuest promotion! All elves that rescue at least 500 Bears between Friday, March 27th and Sunday, March 29th will receive a gift from Elf Island. Players that accumulate 500 bears or more during this time will receive their gift on Monday, March 30th.

To celebrate the completion of the GoodQuest Goal and to thank everyone that participated, Elf Island will be throwing a Party on April 4th and 5th. More details about the party will be coming soon, so keep your eyes open!

See you on the island!

Name that Bear!

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Elf Islanders, you are amazing. Not only have you earned your QuestKey, but you also have ensured that a real polar bear will be tracked for six months.

When polar bears are being tracked in the wild, each bear is given a name so that scientists can identify it. Because you have done such great work so far, Elf Island is challenging you to help us name the polar bear!

Starting today until March 29, you can submit your suggested names for the polar bear by pressing the “M” button. Select “Something Else” and enter “Polar Bear” as the subject and write your suggested name in the body. You may only submit one name.

If you can reach the new goal of 360,000 virtual bears saved by the end of this GoodQuest, the community will have the chance to vote on the top five names that have been submitted. The winning name will be given to the EI sponsored polar bear, and will be used by the scientists in the field.

Keep up the great work and send in your ideas. Your submission could be the winning name!

Note: the bear we will be tracking is female

Play Games, Help Polar Bears!!

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

On March 5th, visit the Window of the Heart to start the Polar Bear GoodQuest and help protect Real polar bears in the Arctic!

Polar bears rely on the ice in the North Pole for their survival, but the ice is quickly melting from beneath their giant paws.

Join in the Polar Bear GoodQuest where your mission is to help the polar bears find their dens before the ice melts around you. Choose the parts to your Snow Cruiser carefully because the more CO2 your cruiser produces the faster the ice around you will melt.

You have 30 days to meet the QuestGoal, when you do Polar Bears International will place a tracking collar on a real polar bear so that they can learn more about the needs and dangers these northern creatures are facing each day. The more we know about their lives, the more we can help!

Join The Quest March 5th!

For more information on Polar Bears International, visit their Web site at: www.polarbearsinternational.org.

Update: To kick off the upcoming Polar Bear GoodQuest, the Elf Island Hosts will be giving away a Polar Bear gift all day on Wednesday, March 4th. If you see one of the Hosts, tell them “save the bears!” to receive your special gift. Log-in Wednesday to receive your gift, and make sure to come back Thursday to join the GoodQuest!!!
