Name Those Clothes – Part 4

Monday, October 26th, 2009

As Elf Island continues to work on improving our wardrobe and prepares to launch a clothing store in the near future, we need to give each wardrobe item a unique name. Elf Island is empowering YOU, our community, to assist in the naming of some of our most popular items.

Below are images of several wardrobe items that we need your help naming! If you would like to contribute, please get your parents help and send an email to the Tide@elfisland.com with your Elf name, and your item name suggestions along with the item numbers shown below (B1., B2., etc.) Please use the subject line “Wardrobe Part 4” in your email with your Elf name.

The Elf Island staff will select the winning names and assign them to our wardrobe items when Elf Island launches our upcoming clothing store!

All submissions must be received by Friday Oct 30. We will be posting more wardrobe items to be named in the near future. All names must follow the rules of Elf Island. Those that do not follow Elf Island’s rules will not be taken into consideration.

Ophira's Magic Inn

by Cub Reporter MorningSun

Are you visiting Elf Island and need a place to stay? Are all the other hotels  too boring? Well, boy have we found the place for you!

Ophira’s Magic Inn is Elf Island’s newest hotel, and it sure is attracting a crowd! Some of you may be wondering how it got its start. Here is the owner, Ophira, to tell you how Ophira’s Magic Inn came to be:

” I never saw myself owning a hotel,”  says Ophira. ” It all started when a friend asked if she could live with me. I actually thought she was joking! I asked her if she was serious, and she replied  “I couldn’t say no, so I let her stay. I guess word got out about it, and soon elves were showing up at my door with suitcases asking if I had any free rooms! Soon my house was so full, I had to add a whole extra hall with more rooms! I love helping people, and my house is always open, so if you need somewhere to stay just come on by!”

With a Genie telephone, a fireplace  that blazes any color you want it to, and room service that brings itself to your room, its no wonder people keep coming! Also for those tourists who don’t have enough time to visit all of Elf Island, there’s nothing to worry about. Every day when you look out your window, there’s a different view of Elf Island! When we asked Ophira, how this is possible, she replied, ” I don’t know, it’s almost like magic, huh?”

Elves all over are ranting and raving about how much they love the hotel. ” I like hanging out at the hotel because all my friends go there and the place is beautiful!” says ElfaElfa. ” I love staying there!” says Mistygolden. “Meeting and greeting all the new faces that visit Elf Island is the best part! Who knew you could make so many friends, from just staying at a hotel!”

So make your reservations for this hotel, now, or you may not get in until next year! Be sure to visit Ophira’s Magic Inn, where every moment is a magical one!

A Father – Daughter Moment on Elf Island

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

daddy daughter time

The following is  a special story submitted by a parent about how Elf Island allowed him and his daughter to connect in the middle of the day and have some special family time. Enjoy!

As my daughter and I were on Elf Island the other day, we met in the Rainforest and flew up to the beautiful canopy to sit and chat in the middle of the day. She was happy to see me and I was thrilled to see her and chit-chat for a little while during my busy work day. She had her hair in a long black braid and was dressed all in light blue. It was funny, because I was in all blue as well. I said, “I like your mask,” and she liked my compliment and responded to me with a ‘happy emoticon.”  She said she liked my hat. I was sporting a cool blue mushroom cap that matched the rest of my hip dark blue attire.

The funniest moment came when another elf came up to join us. We acknowledged her with a polite “hello” and ”hi,” and then I chose to dance like a monkey…and when I say dance like a monkey…I actually turned into a monkey with colorful wings and jumped back and forth dancing joyfully. My daughter then did the same thing. So as we both danced back and forth high up in the tree canopy, we certainly entertained our fellow elf friend. How did we know? She gave us a sign by emoting a ‘Laughing Tiki Head’ and then a ‘Rockin’ Emote’ – a cool tiki head with an electric guitar and feathered Mohawk.

Well, I had to get back to work, and she had to head to the pool with her sisters, so we wished each other a good day and flew back out to our REAL lives, both with huge REAL grins on our REAL faces:)

We both love Elf Island and through our game play – doing GOOD in the Real World!

Ponder and Prattle

Greetings, elves! Welcome to Ponder & Prattle. Here we answer questions elves have about Elf Island.

Tigger asks, “Can you make our inventory invisible to other players like the EI Staff?”

Currently we cannot make your inventory invisible to other players, Tigger. However, we will take this idea into consideration. Thanks for you input.

Hellopop asks, “Is telling someone your hair color considered giving out personal information? I mean, it’s just your hair color, right?”

Elf Island does not advocate the sharing of any personal information among players, not matter how big or small.  Our goal is to keep players safe in a fun online environment. It is safer for everyone not to share any personal information with anyone online.

MyAwesome asks, “If I have a 1 Year Membership to Elf Island, and get a code for 1 Month free, will my membership be extended if I use the code now?”

It depends on the code you are using. Some codes are for new users who have never logged into Elf Island. Others are available for all. You will see a message telling you which type of code you have when you use it. If it is a code for everyone, it will be added as 1 extra month to your 1 Year Membership.

Water asks, “How can I get tickets? Are tickets members only?”

Tickets are indeed, a member only feature. Members may earn tickets by placing in one of the Awards categories. The Awards categories are

Quest Conqueror – The players with the top performance in the GoodQuest that week

Risky Business – The 5 players who have traded the most on the island that week

Good Egg – The 5 players who have gifted the most on the island that week

Cozy Crib – The 5 players with the highest home hospitality points that week

Child’s Play – Top 5 players in mini-games for that week

Island Ikon – The 5 best overall players in all categories for that week

The number of tickets an elf earns is based on which place an elf comes in for each award. For example, if you win the Child’s Play award and come in third place, you will receive 5 tickets. Tickets are stored in your “My Stuff”. Tickets can be saved from week to week. However, tickets may not be traded or gifted to another elf. Tickets are given out on Wednesday.

1st Place = 10 Tickets

2nd Place =  8 Tickets

3rd Place =   5 Tickets

4th Place =   3 Tickets

5th Place =    1 Ticket

To redeem a prize, visit Mushroom Alley and click on the picture frame showing the item you would like to have.  Prizes will change in Mushroom Alley every few weeks.

Superman_Return asks, “How do I send a gift?”

Ponder and Prattle

Greetings, elves! Welcome to Ponder & Prattle. Here we answer questions elves have about Elf Island.

Tinkonice asks

“How do I submit pictures for contests? Do I take a picture of it to send it or what?”

You may take a picture of it, scan it into your computer, or draw it on your computer. Please make sure your entry is an original piece of art that you created. Email all art submissions as a jpg or bmp to thetide@elfisland.com. For information on specific art contests, check the Dragon Corner blog entries.

Snapkraklpop asks

“I saw a Brrito in someone’s My Stuff. How do I get one?”

The Brrito was a special limited item that was given away through a special promotion.

JungleDudette asks

“I can’t track Elfie, the polar bear we named as part of the Polar Bear GoodQuest. Why is that?”

Polar Bears International is upgrading their technology and so it is taking a little more time for the tracking of Elfie to happen. Expect some news on tracking Elfie soon!

Mizrahi asks

“I saw the Promotional Code button on the new log-in screen. What are the promotional codes for, and where can I get one?”

Promotional codes are given out as part of different promotions Elf Island is doing. This is also where you would enter information for a gift membership. You never know where a promotional code will pop-up, like here: T-Rex.

TheMan asks

Name that Bear!

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Elf Islanders, you are amazing. Not only have you earned your QuestKey, but you also have ensured that a real polar bear will be tracked for six months.

When polar bears are being tracked in the wild, each bear is given a name so that scientists can identify it. Because you have done such great work so far, Elf Island is challenging you to help us name the polar bear!

Starting today until March 29, you can submit your suggested names for the polar bear by pressing the “M” button. Select “Something Else” and enter “Polar Bear” as the subject and write your suggested name in the body. You may only submit one name.

If you can reach the new goal of 360,000 virtual bears saved by the end of this GoodQuest, the community will have the chance to vote on the top five names that have been submitted. The winning name will be given to the EI sponsored polar bear, and will be used by the scientists in the field.

Keep up the great work and send in your ideas. Your submission could be the winning name!

Note: the bear we will be tracking is female
