On July 15th Rob and Daundrakkus visited the island to discuss: The Apprentice’s Journey: A New Level of Good. The chat was held to share the upcoming features and to get feedback from players. Below is an overview of the Apprentice’s Journey: A New Level of Good!

New Leveling System

Players will unlock prizes and rewards on the island by earning levels.

Levels will be earned by gaining GoodPoints. You get GoodPoints by doing good around the island.~ Playing the GoodQuest, donating to the scale of good, caring for animals, and earning Kudos.

As you level up, you will get to experience more story and on your time! We are also introducing some REALLY COOL clothing that is GoodQuest related. We will have level exclusive areas on the island.

GoodQuest Expansion

When we launch the New Level of Good, there will be 2 GoodQuest available.

There will no longer be a deadline for the GoodQuest and GoodQuest will remain on the island for long periods of time.

If you missed this great chat, below are the questions and answers.

Q: Why did Xeko decide to make these changes?

Answer: In the past, players would have to wait until the GoodQuest goal was reached to experience the clue room, the story, and exclusive prizes. We want players to be able to play at their own pace and have fun instead of waiting for prizes and rewards and new parts of the story.

Leveling System Related Questions:

Q: What are the levels for?

Answer: The levels are here to let people now experience the story, prizes, etc. on their own time rather than waiting for a whole month to go by. So we aren’t expecting people to play ALL the time to meet a community goal, we are letting people play as little or as much as they want. And levels are a great way to enable that.

Q: Are these changes for non members as well?

Answer: Ok, so non-members can gain levels too…There are 40 levels to start. Non-members can level up to level 10 pretty easily and it will be much easier to level 11+ if you are a member.

Q: Will the beta players get more rewards for starting off?

Answer: Your level will be attributed to your current Clue ranking. So if you have been playing a while, you will be a higher level at launch.

Q: so, will the ranking system of guiding nomad be used or is there a new system?

Answer:: This will be a new leveling system.

Q: Will it is possible for a non member go past level 10?

Answer: It will be possible, but it will take a LOT LOT LOT of work.

Q: What happens after the non members reach level 10?

Answer: When non-members hit level 10…They will not be able to play GoodQuest.

Q: Is there a max no. of GoodPoints you can achieve?

Answer: Max level of 40 for right now.

Q: will there be a Good Point leader board?

Answer: No leader board, just your level.

Q: What will be the exclusive environments on the island?

Answer: The levels help you earn prizes, entrance to the lighthouse will be part of the leveling system. The lighthouse is going to be a special place for players who have earned higher levels. So, the lower level will probably be for level 11+ and the upper level will probably be for level 31+. Now that we have stuffed animals in stores, there are a lot of ways for people to do good. So that is why we didn’t just make the lighthouse “Members only”. Someone can earn level 11 by caring for animals, and we want to treat those players like “members” too. So, the lighthouse can now be a place for “member-only” parties, which is something we promised a long time ago.

Q: may I keep my star?

Answer: The stars will go away, they were part of a contest, long ago. We never planned for the stars to remain a permanent fixture on the island.

Q: If we start at our current level will we miss prizes from lower levels or will they be the same?

Answer:: All Prizes below your level will be given to you.

Q: How do you check your progress on leveling up?

Answer:: Yes, there will be a level progress bar on the navigation and also on your profile tab What’s Happening is going to be replaced in the nav with your level meter. The blog and what’s happening almost always have the same information. One thing we’re TRYING to do – no guarantees….We’d like to make it so you can chat while in a GQ, and see announcements. We’re testing it.

Q: When you said we would get prizes, is it for both leveling in up and getting a certain amount in the GoodQuest game?

Answer:: Both! You will be awarded for gaining levels and for your progress in GoodQuests!

Q: Do the levels get more difficult as they go up?

Answer:: The levels in the GoodQuests get harder, like easy, medium, difficult, and master. And the levels of your elf will get harder to earn in the sense that it takes more points to earn a level.

GoodQuest Related Questions:

Q: Will the Quest Items continue or will GoodPoints replace them?

Answer: Quest items will continue. We are planning 2 awesome suits to be unlocked by leveling. When we launch it, there will be 2 new clues to unlock by doing good.

Q: Why are you getting rid of the GoodQuest being about 1 month?

Answser: There will have a collective goal, but not a deadline. It’s always been tough for us trying to set a good goal that is challenging and fun, but not too difficult. So we’re taking the time deadline out of the equation. We’ll set a goal, you can reach it at your own pace as a community, but you can also earn clues and items individually while you do good. Once you finish, we’ll take some time to set a new goal to do even more good. These 2 GQs will be around for a long time.

Q: Will we be able to continue with Poe and Pog's story?

Answer: The story will continue. You will unlock clues and prizes through the story. When we launch it, there will be 2 new clues to unlock by doing good.

Q: If we complete both GoodQuest on our own time and do we still get GoodQuest keys and would we get too at same time?

Answer:: You will get keys now based upon your level. As you level up, one of the potential prizes for each level is a Quest Key, giving you access to clue rooms. You can level up by playing GoodQuests, Donating to the Scale of Good, and Taking Care of the Animals. Depending on your level, you may get more than one key while playing the GoodQuests.

Q: With the new GoodQuest, will they be continuing them as member based only and also will the non member be able to also earn the keys and levels?

Answer:: Players will be able to play the GoodQuest, earn keys, prizes, and GoodPoints up until level 10. They will then have to become members to continue playing the GoodQuests. Also, Kudos will award GoodPoints.

Q: Will we get to play the GoodQuest we missed?

Answer:: No, unfortunately, the GoodQuest in the past are not planned to return. We have talked about brining one specific GQ back, but we aren’t releasing what that is yet.

Q: What will be the next GoodQuests?

Answer:: Chimpanzees and Elephants. The elephant GoodQuest will actually live in this room and chimps will be in the Rainforest.

Q: What is going to happen to the Keys and Table it concept?

Answer:: You will still earn them, but now you will earn them when you gain a level, not at the end of a GoodQuest.

Q: So are the collective GoodQuest goals going away?

Answer:: Nope, collective goals are staying. When they are met, we will have a party, possibly take the quest down for a few days, apply a content update and then bring it right back up.

Q: What do you do with GoodPoints?

Answer:: GoodPoints are points that are awarded to you by doing good. This can be with GQ’s, Scale of Good, or animal care. Each time you earn a GoodPoints, it is attributed to your level. When you get enough GoodPoints to level up, you will gain a new level.

Q: Will we still be able to win awards?

Answer: Awards will give you GoodPoints and Kudos.

Q: Will other people be able to see our awards still?

Answer: The main profile tab will not have awards there.

Q: what happens to our tickets?

Answer: Tickets… spend them now if you want to. Prize Alley could be replaced as soon as next week. Any tickets you don’t spend will be converted to GoodPoints. Prize Alley is going to become Arcade Alley.

Q: arcade alley, will all mini games go in there?

Answer: Prize Alley is going to become Arcade Alley. We’re going to move most of the mini-games to Arcade Alley, to make room for the GoodQuests around the island. Arcade could be as soon as next week. So use those tickets if you want to Games will still be on the map, sort of, Arcade Alley will be on the map, Creature Seeker, TCG, and GQs will be on the map. The other mini-games will just be in Arcade Alley.

Q: Will non-members be able to earn GoodPoints once they have passed level 10?

Answer: They can still get GoodPoints by doing good, earning Kudos, giving to the scale of good, but the best way to gain levels is playing the GoodQuests.

Q: Will deadlines for us to get big amounts of coins added to the scale of good be implemented?

Answer: Scale of Good will not have deadlines. We are looking at adding more causes on the scale, mostly non-profits that help local cities.

Q: What is happening with the kudos we have now and not awarded for fossils and recyclables?

Answer:: We will be adding Bo’s Kudos to the island. He should be setting up his shop when the update is released. He may be VERY interested in your collectibles.

Miscellaneous Questions:

Q: Will this expansion include tribes?

Answer: Tribes are a cool idea that we have planned for the long term. At the current population of the island, they might be used more as a tool to divide and create cliques. We are always watching – tribes will happen at a time when they will help people find their friends instead of helping people separate from each other.

Q: Will the Next Level of Good be in beta form at first?

Answer: This will not be in beta – will be a full launch.

Q: Any plans to return the Field Guide with the new updates?

Answer: We like the field guide too. It’s pretty. The problem was that it was very difficult to keep up to date. It had a lot of old information that confused new players.

Q: rob will we ever be able to block trade request and friend request?

Answer: We are aware of many concerns about trade and buddy requests. We will probably not add an on/off switch for buddy/trade requests. Very few games do that, and we believe there’s a reason for that, but we have a lot of different strategies to reduce spam. For one thing, new players are a big source of spam trade requests. So, new players will have to earn a certain level before they can ask to trade. We’re still talking about some other options.

Q: Will Xen still be featured in the new updates?

Answer: Xeko Xen will continue to be an important part of Xeko.

Q: Are we going to be able to buy Xen with coins?

Answer:: We have no plans to allow players to purchase Xen with coins at this time.

Q: How do you get more decks in Trading Card Game?

Answer:: Decks for the TCG will be released when the TCG comes out of Beta.

Q: When will the Apprentice’s Journey be live on the island?

Answer: We are not announcing a date right now, but we’re planning before the end of August.

Thank you to all the players that attended. If you have additional feedback or questions, please email support@xeko.com.

On July 1st, Save_Turtles from Audubon Aquarium, the non-profit for the Sea Turtle GoodQuest, visited the island to answer your questions. Remember, the Sea Turtle GQ Celebration will take place in the Hall of Good on July 17 and 18! See you there.

Below are the questions and answers from the chat

Q: Are baby turtles going to be taken from their nest and moved?

Save_Turtles: The state of Florida is looking at a plan that would move turtle eggs out of the path of the oil.

Q: Okays, how fast can a turtle swim?

Save_Turtles: Well it all depends on species but the average open ocean speed would be about 4 miles an hour.

Q: How many turtles were affected by the oil spill?

Save_Turtles: So far Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans is caring for a total of 106 sea turtles. All our turtles are about the size of a dinner plate with the exception of a 6 pound loggerhead we call Big Momma. It took 7 of us to handle her and clean her when she came into the Institute.

Q: How long after they are cleaned are the turtles released?

Save_Turtles: None of the turtles will be released until the environment is deemed healthy. We will be holding on to the turtles for as long as needed. It could be a few months or several years.

Q: How long does it take to clean most of the oil off a turtle?

Save_Turtles: The first turtle that came into our care we spent over an hour cleaning, we were very determined. Now we have it down to a science and it takes about 15 minutes.

Q: About how many turtles are saved from the oil spill per week?

Save_Turtles: The number of turtles per week varies, it depends on weather mostly and if that prevents the boats from searching. The most we ever got in one night was 14.

Q: How has the oil disaster affected the population of the sea turtles?

Save_Turtles: I believe you are asking about how the oil has affected the population of turtles, it is too early to tell. This is the first case of sea turtles being in an oil spill.

Q: How many turtles have died?

Save_Turtles: Well it depends on what aspect you are asking, out of the 109 sea turtles that have been brought into our care; we have lost a total of 3. We are still waiting for reports to tell us exactly what happened but upon exam, oil was found in their bodies.

Q: How long have sea turtles been on earth?

Save_Turtles: Fossils date back to the time of dinosaurs for one species of sea turtles. It is the only species of sea turtle that is extinct.

Q: Will the habitats of sea turtles be permanently impacted by the oil spill?

Save_Turtles: This is a great question and I think time will tell, if they can get the oil off the beaches fast enough so it doesn’t seep down deep then the nesting grounds should be ok. If the oil damages coral reef systems that may pose a different situation since turtles like green sea turtles live there.

Q: How many turtles will the oils spill harm, do you think?

Save_Turtles: I don’t think anyone can give an accurate guess on the total number that will be effected by the spill, we do feel however that the Kemp’s Ridley will be the most impacted since this is the time of year they migrate through the Gulf of Mexico. There are only around 3000 left.

Q: How big is a baby turtle when it is first born?

Save_Turtles: Most hatchlings are around the size of a silver dollar, very tiny.

Q: What kinds of turtles will be affected by oil spill?

Save_Turtles: There are five species found in the Gulf of Mexico, Green, Loggerhead, Leatherback, Hawksbill and Kemp’s Ridley.

Q: How do you rescue the affected turtles and bring them back?

Save_Turtles: We have two boat teams from NOAA and LDWF that go searching where the oil line meets with the current and sargassum grass and they search for the turtles.

Q: How do you get them out of the water?

Save_Turtles: The teams use what is called a dip net, like a big fishing net and they scoop down in the water and pull them into the boats then once the boats dock they are driven to us.

Q: How does oil affect the turtle eggs?

Save_Turtles: Well when the oil reaches the beach it can seep down into the nest and penetrate the eggs, this would not be good for the turtles inside.

Q: Do they expect oil to reach down to Caribbean or farther? If it does, won’t it hurt more turtles?

Save_Turtles: Scientists have been worried about the oil getting into what is called the Loop Current which would take it around Florida and up the eastern seaboard of the US if this happens then I believe it will go to the Caribbean and other areas.

Q: How long have been the oil spill going on?

Save_Turtles: The explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig happened on April 20th and two days later it sank, I believe we are on day 73 or 74.

Q: How do you clean a sea turtle affected by oil?

Save_Turtles: We first run a little vegetable oil on them which helps to break down the crude oil and then we use Dawn dish soap and a toothbrush; we clean their eyes and mouth with mayo. Mayo helps gently breakdown and remove the oil.

Q: Why do we not clean this up same way?

Save_Turtles: This is the first oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and they are using a lot of the same principles that have been used in spills past, some things work the same others not so well. There are things with the cleanup effort that don’t make sense to a lot of people but we just focus on our job which is to take care of every animal brought to us.

Q: When is nest in season for the turtles?

Save_Turtles: This is nesting season for sea turtles and it usually peaks around late July through August.

Q: What is the normal life spin for sea turtles?

Save_Turtles: Normal life span of a sea turtle is roughly 80-100 years, with reptiles it is really hard to tell what their age is unless you have them since birth. It takes them a very long time to grow up usually about 30 years.

Q: Once the turtles reach shore are they in critical condition? What do they go through before they get cleaned?

Save_Turtles: Once the turtles reach shore most are very lethargic or tired, most are dehydrated and some have other medical needs which are all addressed by our staff. Every turtle is treated as critical for several days.

Q: Does the oil get inside the turtles?

Save_Turtles: Yes the oil does get inside the turtles, we see it in their mouths and nostrils which we clean out, we also give them a dose of mayo and cod liver oil to help flush out any oil they may have eaten.

Q: What do the turtles like to eat?

Save_Turtles: Well it all depends on species, Green sea turtles as adults love to eat veggies while other species like the Kemp’s Ridley love crab. We feed them crab, fish, squid, and clam.

Q: What other sea creatures were affected by the spill?

Save_Turtles: There have been several species of birds affected especially the Brown Pelican. We are also ready to help dolphins and manatees should they become affected too. Also lots of fish.

Q: What’s the worst case of a turtle with oil you've seen?

Save_Turtles: A lot of our turtles have come in the same way, covered beak to tail inside and out with the oil. The worst is when it is covering their eyes for me.

Q: How much oil spill was there?

Save_Turtles: I don’t think the researchers even know how much has flown from the well into the ocean yet, last I heard I think they were estimating around 100 million barrels.

Q: Are other countries helping us? How are we helping by playing the quest?

Save_Turtles: Other countries are sending equipment for BP to use to skim and collect the oil, you guys are helping save actual sea turtles that the Audubon Nature Institute are taking care of, which is awesome! By playing the Sea Turtle GoodQuest, a donation will be made to our turtle efforts so every effort helps. Thank you all for helping us.

Q: What has been done to prevent oil from spilling into the Gulf?

Save_Turtles: Well I must say Tayroo that the oil is spilling in the Gulf as we speak, the leak and flow is about 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana.

Q: If the habitats have suffered from the oil, do the sea turtles located there move somewhere else?

Save_Turtles: The hope is that the sea turtles will find new habitats once they learn they cannot live in theirs anymore.

Q: Do you know something my friends and I can do to help; we are trying to do raise money.

Save_Turtles: Well cool, just by playing this game you are helping, I know the goal is 200,000 virtual turtles and it is about 60% complete so keep playing.

Q: How many groups are working to help the turtles?

Save_Turtles: Audubon Nature Institute is the only organization in Louisiana caring for the turtles, there is 1 place in Mississippi and 2 in Florida.

Q: How badly has the turtle’s food been affected?

Save_Turtles: I think some of their food has been affected; the smaller turtles float around in beds of sea grass and eat the creatures in the sea grass such as small crabs and fish which are covered in oil. The oil has also impacted the shrimp.

Q: Are you guys keeping all the turtles until it's safe for them to return to their homes?

Save_Turtles: Yes, we will hold onto all the turtles until their environment is deemed healthy and safe for their return, if we get too many turtles other AZA accredited facilities have offered space for holding as well. We are in this for the long haul.

Save_Turtles: You guys were amazing and asking awesome questions, keep up the good work here!

Imagine this: There you are, swimming along, and oil blocks your home. Your home is covered in oil. What would you do? How would you live? How would you like it?

The life of a sea turtle is not easy. They have many predators like crabs and sharks, and already are endangered. Now adding a new predator, the oil, makes sea turtle’s lives almost impossible.

We have 1 day left in the Goodquest. Whether we reach the goal or not, let’s try our best to save the Sea Turtles from injuries and death. Think of the turtles.

Green turtle covered in oil<http://research.myfwc.com/images/gallery/20020611_150623_12692.jpg> this is a picture of a sea turtle covered in oil. This can make sea turtles die.

Lets save the turtles, and not keep them looking like this.
