Elf Island Is Opening!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Pre-Registered Users Catch the First Boats to Elf Island Beta!

For those who have pre-registered with Elf Island, sound the alarms and alert your friends: beginning this Tuesday, the first boat sets sail for Elf Island!

The anticipation is building as the elves prepare for your arrival within the next two weeks. Many have been working around the clock to ensure you have the best experience as a new elf on our island.

As one of the first to inhabit Elf Island, you will notice that we have five island rules:

1. Have fun! You’ve earned bragging rights being the 1st to inhabit Elf Island.
2. Share your thoughts and ideas. You are making Elf Island the best virtual world.
3. Think creatively! You are entering a fantastical world with great possibilities.
4. Remain patient and forgiving in this early stage of Elf Island.
5. Explore and listen! Elf Island is filled with hidden rooms, mini-games, special features and sounds.

Tuesday, November 4th from 4pm ET – 10pm ET our first boat will begin boarding pre-registered elves.
** Boarding rights are based on the date you requested a user name and password. **

Because of the overwhelming amount of kids that pre-registered, we will have one boat a day setting sail for Elf Island. Did you make the first boat? Don’t worry if you don’t see your user name on this list. We will have a new list of user names for the second boat on Wednesday.

Click here to see if you made the first boat.

Note – If you try to board one of our boats before the date you pre-registered, the elves will politely ask you to get back in line and patiently wait. Rest assured, your time will come. We will post new user names and continue these times (4pm ET – 10pm ET) daily until we launch to the public.

We expect this process to happen within a two-week timeframe. Soon thereafter, we will open Elf Island and allow the world to come experience our own fantastical world.

Please spread the word — Elf Island is coming.

National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month! Whether you’re a parent or a child, Elf Island wants to help you to stay safe when you’re online.

One of the best ways to keep your computer safe is to make sure you have spy ware and antivirus software installed and run them both regularly. Always back-up your important files, so that if your computer does get a virus, your files are safe and sound!

Never share personal information to ANYONE while your online, such as your name, location, or any means of contact. Unfortunately, you don’t always know people’s motives. If someone asks you for personal information, don’t share it and make sure to tell your parents. Always be sure to use secure passwords, so that no one can break into your online accounts.

If you get an email from someone you don’t recognize, don’t open it and make sure not to click any links or view any strange attachments. Beware of viruses transferred through email and watch out for email scams that might request personal information or money from you.

Also remember to never enter credit card information or sensitive usernames and passwords onto public computers. You never know who may be watching or trying to log the information you have input.

And, of course, if you’re a parent, monitor your child’s online activity. Make sure they’re following the above tips and only visiting sites that you know and trust.

This is just scratching the surface of online safety. For more information, check out the National Cyber Security Alliance at: http://www.staysafeonline.org

Favorite Animals

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Fuzzy, friendly, or ferocious, no one can deny they have a favorite animal. Maybe it’s polar bears because they are so cute. Maybe it’s tigers because they are fearsome and have powerful claws. Or maybe you like cows because they give us milk that goes great with cereal, cookies, and cake.

On Elf Island, all creatures are important. Even the ones that might frighten you from time to time. That’s why we have dedicated ourselves to helping save animals that are endangered, and in turn, protecting our fragile ecosystem. We are currently planning adventures to help save our furry (and not so furry) friends.

What we would like to learn from you is, which animals excite and interest you? Some of you may like giraffes, or bears, or even amoebas. All we want to know is which you’d like to see as a part of your adventures on Elf Island.
