Shark GoodQuests Tricks of the Trade

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Tracking down shark poachers is a tricky process.  Check out these quick tips to navigating the underwater mazes:

1.    Don’t swim into a hook.  Those things are crazy sharp; instead bite the boxes that make them move.  A disabled hook is a harmless hook.
2.    Use your mini-map. Make sure you are using your mini-map to see where you’ve been, where you should go, and in which areas the poachers might lurk!
3.    Find the poachers.  While collecting coins and freeing sharks is important, the main goal is to catch the poachers.  Focus on finding their boat! Remember it’s a boat, so its will be floating on the waters surface at the top of the map.
4.    Watch out for the walls.  Lots of plants and mud on the surface of the ocean floor can grab onto you and make you get stuck to the cave walls.  When this happens, swimming back into the wall helps you get free.

The ultimate goal is to keep all of the patrol zones free from poachers.  As long as there is a demand for illegal animal products, the poachers will keep coming back, so make sure you patrol often.

If you have questions or suggestions for the other Elves out there patrolling waters of the Galapagos for poachers, post them here.   If we all work together we can make a big difference!

Dive Into Elf Island’s 2nd GoodQuest Tomorrow With Shark Preservation!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Beginning tomorrow, January 29th, Islanders will have the opportunity to join WildAid in their quest to protect sharks in the Galapagos Islands. Almost 25% of the World’s species of sharks are in danger of becoming extinct. You can help by Gaming for Good and accepting the challenge through Elf Island’s GoodQuest game.

Join Elf Island’s Shark GoodQuest and go undercover as a shark and navigate your way through undersea mazes filled with dangerous poacher traps. Through this intense time-based game you will free captured sharks and find and tag the poacher’s boat with a GPS unit, so the poachers can be stopped and arrested.

Islanders, together we have 30-days to clear 30,000 zones of the virtual poachers. It’s a lofty goal, but we know that you are ready to stop these illegal fishermen and make a difference by Gaming for Good.

By reaching this collective goal, Elf Island and WildAid will repair REAL boats used by the REAL park wardens in the Galapagos National Park, so that more REAL poachers can be kept off the water.

You can make a difference. Start your GoodQuest tomorrow!

Martin Luther King Day

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Martin Luther King – January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968

Today our nation celebrates the work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King used non-violent means to bring liberty and justice to all people during the Civil Rights Movement.

The most famous icon of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end racial segregation and racial discrimination. Some of his efforts include the Montgomery Bus Boycott to end segregated bussing, and the 1963 March on Washington.

During the march, Dr. King delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech, speaking of a world where people of all races, colors, and creeds could live in harmony together. This speech not only established him as one of the US’s most well-known speakers, but also made many people aware of the importance and struggle of the Civil Rights Movement.

Good Egg Studios and the whole Elf Island Community recognize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for his great contribution to our nation, and for his continued inspiration to all.

Congratulations Elf Islanders for Meeting the House Building GoodQuest Goal

Monday, January 12th, 2009

On 1/06/09,  the Elf Island community reached 10,000 virtual homes built in our GoodQuest.  We’d like to thank everyone who participated in the GoodQuest, especially  RainPearl who built 545 virtual homes on her own! Even more impressive, all of you managed to reach the goal with time to  spare!!!

Because of your Gaming for Good, Elf Island and Habitat for Humanity will build two REAL homes for REAL families in Honduras. To celebrate this event, Elf  Island is holding a special party where you can hang in our special Honduran Party Room, receive a piñata  gift at the party, and participate in host games to win limited edition Honduras prizes!

And all of you who have participated in the Quest and completed at least one virtual house should have already received your QuestKey. With this key you can unlock a new area of Elf Island and receive your first clue towards unraveling the Secret of Elf Island.

As our first GoodQuest ends, we  have our SharkQuest almost ready to launch. Check back for more updates and get excited about helping REAL sharks in the Galapagos Islands.
